Traveling on a Budget in Your RV

If your idea of a great family trip is RV travel, then you also know how costs can add up during the trip. One of the perks of RV travel is that it’s often cheaper than flying—if planned properly. Setting aside some time to plan your trip in advance can go a long way toward preparing a budget that you’re comfortable with before hitting the road. Let’s look at a few ways to both stay on budget and have a great time.

Route

Planning your route before leaving allows you estimate mileage, which gives you a good idea of how much gas you’ll need. That can go directly into your budget since gas is a necessary expense on an RV trip. Getting familiar with your route also gives you an idea of nearby attractions, friends and restaurants you may want to visit along the way.

Meal Prep

Preparing your own meals in your RV is the most affordable way to eat on a trip. Buy your non-perishables before the trip, then you can pick up meat and produce along the way. Of course, part of travel involves trying local foods, so be sure to budget for a few meals out if you family enjoys that aspect of travel.

Overnight Stops

Rather than forking over all your money to hotels, plan to stay at RV parks and campgrounds. You can search for these types of rest stops that are situated along your route. Calling in advance for pricing information and reservations can help you get a good deal, along with ensuring you know where you’ll be staying.

Activities

When researching places to visit, be sure to note activities that are free and note the price of others you may still wish to visit. This helps you budget for some fun family times, and also lets you know how much you can spend on shopping as well.

Don’t forget to review your coverage before a big trip. Call MANN & GRAY Insurance Associates at 410-546-5575 for more information on RV insurance.
